چکیده

Novel conditions are derived that guarantee convergence of the Sum-Product algorithm (also known as Loopy Belief Propagation or simply Belief Propagation) to a unique fixed point, irrespective of the initial messages, for parallel (synchronous) updates. The computational complexity of the conditions is polynomial in the number of variables. In contrast with previously existing conditions, our results are directly applicable to arbitrary factor graphs (with discrete variables) and are shown to be valid also in the case of factors containing zeros, under some additional conditions. The conditions are compared with existing ones, numerically and, if possible, analytically. For binary variables with pairwise interactions, sufficient conditions are derived that take into account local evidence (i.e., singlevariable factors) and the type of pair interactions (attractive or repulsive). It is shown empirically that this bound outperforms existing bounds.

Characterization of Factor Graph by Mooij's Sufficient Condition for Convergence of the Sum-Product Algorithm

SUMMARY Recently, Mooij et al. proposed new sufficient conditions for convergence of the sum-product algorithm, and it was also shown that if the factor graph is a tree, Mooij's sufficient condition for convergence is always activated. In this letter, we show that the converse of the above statement is also true under some assumption, and that the assumption holds for the sum-product decoding. ...

Convergence of product integration method applied for numerical solution of linear weakly singular Volterra systems

We develop and apply the product integration method to a large class of linear weakly singular Volterra systems. We show that under certain sufficient conditions this method converges. Numerical implementation of the method is illustrated by a benchmark problem originated from heat conduction.

Sufficient Conditions for Convergence of Loopy Belief Propagation

We derive novel sufficient conditions for convergence of Loopy Belief Propagation (also known as the Sum-Product algorithm) to a unique fixed point. Our results improve upon previously known conditions. For binary variables with (anti-)ferromagnetic interactions, our conditions seem to be sharp.

Message Error Analysis of Loopy Belief Propagation for the Sum-Product Algorithm

Belief propagation is known to perform extremely well in many practical statistical inference and learning problems using graphical models, even in the presence of multiple loops. The use of the belief propagation algorithm on graphical models with loops is referred to as Loopy Belief Propagation (LBP). Various sufficient conditions for convergence of LBP have been presented; however, general n...

Newton-Product Integration for a Stefan Problem with Kinetics

Stefan problem with kinetics is reduced to a system of nonlinear Volterra integral equations of second kind and Newton's method is applied to linearize it. Product integration solution of the linear form is found and sufficient conditions for convergence of the numerical method are given. An example is provided to illustrated the applicability of the method.
